NSW: Carr embarks on US tour today

SYDNEY, Dec 2 AAP - New South Wales Premier Bob Carr today embarks on a hard sell mission
to the United States, hoping to capitalise on the success of the Sydney Olympics.

"It is vital that we use the unprecedented success of the Games to win new investment
and create jobs," Mr Carr said in a statement yesterday.

"This trip will reinforce the messages that we sent out during the Games - that NSW
has a vibrant, sophisticated economy and our businesses are second to none."

His 12-day trip includes stopovers in New York, South Carolina and Denver.

Mr Carr said he would be using the "extraordinary goodwill" generated by the September
Olympics when he promotes Sydney to the world's leading banks in New York as one of the
Asia Pacific's major finance centres.

"I will also meet with the chairman of the 2012 New York Olympic committee to discuss
the skills developed in Australia," he said.

The American mission is one of about 70 international Olympic-related trade and investment
activities the government has planned for the next 12 months.

Mr Carr departs about midday today.
