Fed: Teenager who saves girl from dog attack wins award

BRISBANE, Aug 11 AAP - A teenager who saved a young girl from a frenzied dog attackhas been honoured with a Queensland bravery award.
Danielle-Ann Roberts on June 12 last year rushed out of her home in the Gold Coastsuburb of Stephens after she heard a scream and saw nine-year-old Emily Fraser being mauledby a mastiff-staffordshire-blue heeler.
Emily and her friend had been selling raffle tickets when she was set upon by the dog.
The dog had retreated and Miss Roberts, then 13-years-old, picked up the bloodied littlegirl to take her to safety.
But the dog attacked both of them again and while holding onto Emily she fended offthe frenzied dog before reaching the safety of her home.
"It was a scary but what I did was a reflex action," Miss Roberts said.
Miss Roberts still lives near Emily who received severe facial injuries from the attackbut now has recovered from her ordeal.
She can't understand why she was picked out for a bravery award.
"I'm surprised. I didn't now I was going to get it," she said today.
"I don't feel like a hero. I think anyone could have done what I did."
